The WE Learn e-Academy is an online library of videos to help you learn more about medical billing. Most employers report that medical billers they interview with educational experience from medical billing schools do not have what it takes to work for them. We heard from the community and created medical billing education that creates real-world knowledge for medical billers to start working.

Working Knowledge

WE Learn courses are designed to get you working in the health care reimbursement field. From an overview of body systems that relate directly to medical specialties to filling out a CMS 1500 Claim Form, we help you learn and work in the Medical Billing Profession. WE Learn features an e-software tool, WE Practice, that you can use to fill out claim forms to prepare for your first client.

How is the WE Learn e-Academy Organized?

We have started with 9 Basic Modules and will be adding more modules as we grow this community. The next series of modules will expand to coding practices and more in depth videos about the basic topics covered in the current set of medical billing modules. We have designed the modules to be completed in sequential order.

Modules

1. Is Medical Billing Right for Me? (Free!)
   Here we talk about the core skill set that successful medical billers have and how to determine if you would be a good fit in this profession. We recommend taking this course before you sign-up for the rest of the courses in the WE Learn e-Academy to make sure you are a good fit in this profession. Test Your Knowledge

2. Computers and Medical Billing
   This module explains what core computer related skill set you will need to be a medical biller. We also review components of a computer, cloud computing, and the basics of social media.

3. What is Medical Billing?
   History of the medical billing profession and basics of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9-CM codes.

4. An Introduction to Health Insurance
   Medical billers need to know how to handle different insurance types when verifying registration and completing health insurance claim forms. This module evaluates the history of health insurance and the different structures of health insurance.

5. Medical Billing Terminology
   This introductory course starts to demystify medical terminology by reviewing the 11 major body systems and medical providers who specialize in those systems. This forms the basis for further study in medical terminology.

6. How to Fill Out a CMS-1500 Claim Form
   We take you through how to fill out each box in the CMS 1500 claim form.

7. Regulations Affecting Medical Billers
   We review the laws and regulations that have affected the medical billing profession and is an introduction to HIPAA.

8. Steps to Starting your Own Medical Billing Business
   This module reviews the major considerations you need before you start a medical billing business.

9. Medical Billing Organizations Review
   We review the major medical billing trade organizations operating today.

10. Diagnosis Coding (ICD-9-CM)
    The ICD-CM coding module reviews the history of the ICD, the organization of the ICD-9-CM, coding conventions of Volume 1, 2, & 3, coding with the ICD-9-CM, and discusses the future transition from ICD-9-CM coding the ICD-10 coding.

11. Procedure Code (CPT)
    In this module, we will cover the history of the CPT code book, who Uses CPT Coding system, a review of each of the main 6 CPT Sections, how to find the correct code in the CPT code book, additional guidelines to keep in mind, a brief review of modifiers.
