Update Patient
You use the Update Patient function to update patient demographic information, including the patient’s name, birth date, marital status and address. Updating the patient’s information does not automatically re-bill claims. If the changes need to be rebilled to the payer, use the Rebill Claims function.

Special Notes/Processing
Patient Name: Enter the patient’s last name, a comma, and the first name (for example, Smith, Jane Lee). If you enter, SMITH, JANE lEE the system will adjust it to Smith, Jane Lee. Enter Jr, Sr, III, etc, after the last name and before the comma (for example, Smith Jr, Randolph). Special characters are not allowed, only numbers, commas and dashes (-) are allowed.
Date of Birth (DOB): Enter the date of birth in the MMDDYYYY format with leading zeros for single digit numbers (for example, 06041940 for June 4, 1940).
Social Security Number (SSN): Enter the patient’s social security number in the SSN field. The system will check for duplicates. If you do not have the patient’s SSN, enter all 9′s.
Referring MD: Select the patient’s referring physician. If the patient’s referring physician does not display, add their physician using the Caregiver Maintenance functions.
To enter or update patient demographics:
- Select the patient from the navigation list.
- Enter the patient’s name in the Patient Name field. Enter the patient’s last name, a comma, and the first name (for example, SMITH, JANE).
- Enter the patient’s birth date in the DOB field. Enter the date of birth in the MMDDYYYY format with leading zeros for single digit numbers (for example, 06041940 for June 4, 1940).
- Enter the patient’s social security number in the SSN field.
- Select M for male, F for female, or U for unknown.
- Select the code for the patient’s marital status in the Marital Status field. The codes for the marital status are M for married, S for single, D for divorced, P for separated, W for widowed, or U for unknown. /li>
- Enter the patient’s day and evening telephone numbers in the Telephone fields.
- Enter the patient’s address in the Address, City, State and Zip fields.
- Enter the patient’s day and evening telephone numbers in the Telephone fields.
- Select the patient’s referring physician. If the patient’s referring physician does not display, add their physician using the Caregiver Maintenance functions..
- Check that the information is correct and press Enter or click Continue.
- Once the data is correct, the button will change to “Save”. Press Enter or click Save to update the patient demogrpahics.
