November 30, 2011 | By | Add a Comment

277CA transactions are an electronic form of claim acknowledgement from Medicare.  The 277CA transactions give a provider an acknowledgement that their claim has been either accepted or rejected.  277CA transactions are a component of  the 5010 transaction requirement.  For compliance with the 5010 upgrade as of January 1, 2012 covered entities must have “completed end-to-end testing with each of its trading partners, and is able to operate in production mode with the new versions of the standards.”

To ensure compliance with the 5010 upgrade, there are 5 steps to complete:

  1. Transaction versions must be upgraded from 4010 to 5010
  2. Billing software must be able to produce and exchange 277CA transactions from Medicare
  3. Business process review to make sure data elements are captured
  4. Verification that vendors and clearinghouses can accept the new transaction standards (277CA & 999).
  5. Contacting your local Medicare Administration Contractor for testing schedules to verify ability to accept the new transaction sets.

If you have not reached level II compliance, you can contact us and we will help you reach compliance.
